How To Clear Your Nostrils With Medicated Smoking

This era is known as era of technology, information, industrialization and urbanization, for comfort and growth of economy we explore and exploit the nature and in return it gives us an adverse impact on our health. The climatic condition changes to the extreme from season to seasons. In this sense, the air gets pollute which leads to many respiratory tract problem and allergies.

Nose is a sense organ which performs two functions i.e. olfactory and respiratory. Due to its direct contact with external environment it is expose to lot of microorganisms and pollutants present in the atmosphere. Due to the increase environmental pollution and busy life, rhinitis is a common disease in this present era.

Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine that has its origins in India. It is considered, along with traditional Chinese medicine, one of the oldest medical systems in the world. The meaning of this word in Sanskrit would be something like “truth or knowledge of the duration of life” or “the science of life.”

This ancient medicine is base in the use of medicinal plants for treat any diseases. These treatments can be from, massages, therapies, diet, body constitution, to medicated smoke.

What is medicated smoking?

Medicated smoking (Dhumapana) is a sure cure for many disorders. This method of treatment involves inhaling and exhaling of medicinal smoke. It is a fine treatment for various sinus and respiratory diseases. Acute
sinusitis, asthma, sneezing, infections of the lower respiratory tract, cough etc. are treated using Dhoomapana. The removal of mucous toxins also rejuvenates the person’s mental status and provides him with ample freshness. The smoke helps to dry the excessive mucus and also lowers pain.

Dhumapana (literally “drinking smoke”), has been practice for over 2,000 years. According to Ayurveda it is believe that proper Dhumapana can clear the channels in the supraclavicular region and the respiratory tract. So, this practice can prevent and cure diseases in these regions.

Benefits of the medicated smoking:

  • It is very beneficial in balancing the Kapha.
  • Helps to clear the nose and throat of any sputum.
  • It is very beneficial in problems such as running nose, cough, allergic conditions, blocked nose etc.

Spices and herbs (horsegram, long pepper, guggul, aconite, albizzia tree, turmeric, lac stick, garlic, liquorice, etc.), are crush and mix with oil and ghee. The Treatment

The treatment “Nasya” or nasal application of herbal oil is done prior to Dhoomapana and forms the initial part of this therapy. It is done to drain out the excessive mucous clogs. The next step is the inhalation part. Inhalation use a special tube and  the process is repeat 8 to 15 times in a day and continue for up to 4 days for effective cure.

The outcome of such continuous treatments shows positive results in stopping sinusitis and certain respiratory ailments. The inflammations are reduce, recurrence of the disease is prevent, and also is stop the production of excess mucous.

How to Perform Dhumapana

First, you need to sit straight, attentive, with your mouth open and inhale the smoke through each nostril alternatively. So, while inhaling from one nostril, you should close the other.

Inhalation should be do thrice – inhaling the smoke and letting it out together form one bout. So, three such bouts should be do each time. Smoke should be inhale through the nose first if the imbalanced Doshas are in the nose and head.

When the Doshas are in the throat – inhalation should be do first by the mouth and later by nose. The smoke should be throw only through the mouth. If let out through the nose, it produces loss of vision. 

As we said at the beginning of the post, the nose is one of the most important organs of the body. So it is very important to keep our nostrils as clean as we can. So, take a risk and try this ancient way of cleaning your nostrils through medicated smoke.
