Indians believe that the health of the hair, skin, and nails indicates the person’s health and that someone with unhealthy hair needs to manage their diet better. Specifically, they lack protein and fruits and vegetables. In addition, Shikakai is a traditional Indian herb that heals your hair.
Traditional Indian health theory involves balancing the various body types (doshas), of which there are three general types. This involves diet, exercise, lifestyle, and sometimes ayurvedic treatments.
Most herbs used in hair and skincare are suitable for everyone, regardless of dosha. However, if you have particular problems or concerns, you may contact a Professional Ayurvedic Doctor.
One of the herbs that are perfect for hair is Shikakai. This herb has been used since ancient times to treat varieties of hair issues naturally, affordably, and efficiently. Use this fantastic herb for your hair and scalp care to make your hair much more manageable and healthy.
Shikakai deals with all the causes of hair problems, such as pollution, chemicals, dryness, dandruff, etc. This beneficial herb is readily available in powder and soaps to treat your hair as best as possible.
What Is Shikakai?
It is a traditional Indian hair care product popular as a natural option to other detergents and shampoos. Shikakai is translated into English as “fruit for hair.” It is considered by some a better approach to hair care than the chemicals in many shampoos for both environmental and personal health reasons.
This product is also often advertised as a cure for dandruff or for promoting hair growth. Made from powdered Acacia Concinna, this natural shampoo is applied as a paste to the hair, massaged into the scalp, and then rinsed out with warm water.
Washing hair with Shikakai alone works because the bark of Acacia Concinna contains saponins, which are traditional cleaning agents. It also has detangling properties, so no additional products are required. Being naturally mild, it is also beneficial for people with sensitive skin.
Some people advise oiling the hair with a product such as coconut oil overnight so that one’s hair will not get dry. However, this natural shampoo does little to disrupt the hair’s natural oils, so this is typically not considered necessary.
Benefits Of Shikakai
Here are some best benefits:
1. Adds Shine And Softness:- The natural ingredients of this herb create your hair softer and add a lovely shine to it.
2. Fights Dandruff:- The antifungal properties of Shikakai nourish your scalp and prevent itching and dryness. Used regularly can cure dandruff.
3. It Gives You More Robust, Thicker Hair:- Shikakai boosts hair roots. The result is stronger and healthier hair, with lesser hair fall.
4. Prevents A Dry Scalp:- This herb works its magic on a dry scalp as a natural cleanser without washing away essential oils.
5. Delays Grey Hair:- Shikakai can slow down and delay the appearance of grey hair, letting you retain the natural youthfulness of your hair for a long time.
6. Removes Hair Lice:- We’re not saying you have any, but if your children pick any at school, using Shikakai can halt the growth and eliminate them.
7. Heals Minor Wounds:- Shikakai is calm and soothing on an aching head and can heal minor cuts and abrasions on your scalp.
8. Soothes Your Head:- A Shikakai hair pack can offer relief on a hot day, relieve a headache or act as a soothing hair pack.
9. Gently Detangles Hair:- Shikakai is a great way to detangle your locks after shampooing if you have curly hair. Gently run your fingers through your hair while rinsing.
10. It Is Cheaper And Better:- It is a much cheaper and more natural alternative to chemical-laden shampoos.
Uses Of Shikakai
You can use Shikakai in many ways like:
1. Paste:- The most common method of applying Shikakai is as a paste. You will need to buy the Shikakai powder and count either water or herbal tea until you finish up with a mixture with the texture of yoghurt. This paste can be used as a hair mask or a shampoo.
2. Shampoo:- If you use it as shampoo, grab a handful of the paste, apply it to the scalp, and scrub gently for 2 minutes or until the hair feels clean. Please don’t overdo it! Even though Shikakai foams up, it is not soap.
Your hair will not feel the same as washing it with shampoo. Mind you, your hair will be clean, but it will also retain most of its natural oils, so, during the first few days, your hair might feel a tad rough to the touch. This can be fixed easily by applying a conditioner or a little bit of oil to your hair after you shower.
3. Hair Mask:- Apply the paste to your hair and leave it on for 30 minutes. If you find the Shikakai hard to rinse, you can use diluted conditioner or oil to loosen it.
4. Shikakai Tea Method:- This will take longer than the paste, but rinse is easier. Add 1 to 3 tbs. of Shikakai powder to 1 cup of water or herbal tea and let it steep for 1 to 5 hours. Pass the mixture through a sieve and add 1 1/2 cups of hot water (or herbal tea) to the Shikakai water. Use this liquid as a rinse instead of shampoo.
- How to use it:- Shake before applying to maximize the suds. Apply to wet hair and massage all over the scalp and hair. Put on a shower cap and rinse at the end of your shower.
5. Oil Hair Treatment:- You can make your own Shikakai oil to use as a treatment for your hair or skin.
You will need the following:
- One tbs. Shikakai powder
- 1/2 cup of your favourite base oil (almond, olive, avocado, coconut, etc.)
Instructions:
- Mix the powder and the base oil and place in a closed container.
- Shake vigorously.
- Place the container in a dark, cool place.
- Let the mixture rest for three weeks, shaking it occasionally to prevent settling.
- After three weeks, your infused oil will be ready to use. The oil must be kept in a dry, cool, dark place. You can use this oil on both skin and hair.
So, now you know the secret to long and beautiful hair. Make Shikakai a regular part of your hair care routine. And watch the results speak for themselves.
